A website dedicated to BlackBerry users, driphter.com, has posted a hands-on review of the BlackBerry Bold 9780. While a video review of a new BlackBerry model is always interesting, the one offered by driphter.com has received considerable interest since it also shows the BlackBerry running the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. Hardware wise it seems that the 9780 isn’t really much different from its predecessor, the 9700.
If you’re a BlackBerry owner chomping at the bit for more peeks at the new BlackBerry operating system you will want to check out this video. Probably the most striking thing I took away from it was how smooth and fast the OS was as the user flips between screens. User interfaces also seem more intuitive which will make it easy for users of previous BlackBerry models to adapt to the new OS.
Straight from the horse’s mouth, comes the news that the latest incarnation of every suit-totin’, email-checkin’, business-type’s favourite phone OS (that is, BlackBerry OS 6.0) will be released this Summer.
During an analyst talk today, RIM co-chief Mike Lazaridis showed off the first official teasers of the new OS.
New features will include the previously mentioned WebKit browser — which will now play a central role in the OS, and the OS will support both trackpad and touchscreen devices, but the juiciest bombshell was the news that older BlackBerries will be able to upgrade, though it wasn’t stated how many models will be given the option.
First loves. No one ever forgets them. Whether it’s your first girlfriend or boyfriend, first car or first pet, you rarely ever forget that experience and what it taught you along the way. But I’m not here to reminisce about old flames and puppies; this is a BlackBerry site after all. When Kevin gave me the opportunity to contribute to the blogs here, I thought the most appropriate thing to do was to introduce myself by gushing about my first BlackBerry and how I got
Although including today’s most sophisticated communications device, the BlackBerry still you could have problems. Well, one problem that might be over ‘The smart handset’ Your property is suddenly nge-hang or restart itself.
These problems can usually be overcome by performing a soft reset, by pressing the ALT key and the same CAP DELETE or perform a hard reset, ie press the reset button on the back of your BlackBerry. But what if both ways are not working? Maybe it’s time to upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System.
Operating System, or commonly abbreviated OS is a vital component of software that has been embedded on your BlackBerry. OS supports BlackBerry performance for multitasking flagship features. that is browsing the Internet, push e-mail, user interfaces, and multimedia.
Convenience for this OS upgrade is one of the advantages the BlackBerry than any other smartphone. With the upgraded OS, BlackBerry older models will have features and capabilities similar to the latest model though. So for you who want to maintain the BlackBerry models pet will not feel ‘inferior’ to the owner of the latest BlackBerry models. Unfortunately, there are still many users who do not bother to upgrade their BlackBerry Operating System, but how tidak’seseram ‘imagined.
First, know the latest OS version first provided mobile operators. You should not download from other sites for your BlackBerry is a product bundling programs mobile operators. If you are still trying to put the OS from the site of different mobile operators, so make sure the first data file has been deleted. If not, then be prepared for possible downgrade because there will be a mismatch in the system.
After downloading the latest OS, upload using the BlackBerry desktop software manager. Then you can enjoy the performance flagship features more optimally. Like koneksivitas faster, clearer sound, or download files faster.
So for you to hang all the activities and work on BlackBerry favorite, never lazy to find out about the latest version of the OS upgrade your BlackBerry. You do not want, at the time your BlackBerry is required ngadat, right?
We’re already in mid-August, and things are starting to slow down news-wise. People are on vacation, so we can expect a slight decrease in rumor output. Still, we’ve got some updates on the BlackBerry Onyx, including a new model number and some info on where it will be released.
I’m not much of a watch-wearer. It’s a physique thing. My forearms are big, but they taper down into wrists I can wrap my fingers around. It’s not normal, and it makes any wrist-wear look awkward. Yet I very well could wear a watch if it connected via Bluetooth to my BlackBerry. Think about it. You could just glance at your watch to see if you have any new emails, SMS, BBMs, or anything of the sort. I caught this on the BlackBerry OS forum, but apparently Gadgets News wrote it up back in May. How did I miss this one? A picture of the sweet thing after the jump.
Well, the Curve 8520 was announced this week, so we’ve got a rundown of that. It includes a hefty price discrepancy between T-Mobile retail and Wal-Mart outlets and a CDMA version coming later this year. Plus, a few other tidbits, like a Verizon app store.
One question I’ve gotten a few times via email lately asks what you can do if you scratch the screen on your BlackBerry. This can be a tough issue which requires a little know-how. Thankfully, there are plenty of people around the Internet who have just that kind of knowledge. So we turn to them to answer the question. Hopefully they can lend a hand if you’re in this situation. But before we even start the linking, please, please, please: if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t do it. You’ll have to take apart your BlackBerry, which can not only void the warranty, but can render it useless if you do something wrong. Just a warning.
When we walked through BlackBerry App World a few months back, there was an immediate need for an upgrade. The program ate memory, lagged a bit, and wasn’t arranged in the most intuitive manner. RIM has looked at those issues and more, and via the Official BlackBerry Blog we learn that they’ve released App World 1.1. It presents a number of upgrades, including the ability to archive applications and a better search mechanism. After the jump we’ll go over everything.
It’s time once again for our bi-weekly feature, Theme Review Wednesdays. Why Wednesdays? I have no idea. Theme Review Thursdays would have been more alliterative, I suppose. Maybe it’s because it’s the middle of the week, and everything seems so mundane. So what better way to break the cycle than to change up your BlackBerry theme? Yeah, that’s the ticket. This week we take a look at three themes that offer a bit of a different look. The one by Hedone Design is especially worth a look — as is all their stuff.
Do you switch between profiles on your BlackBerry? Some users I know switch profiles constantly depending on where they are and where they’ll be. Others I know just flip between Normal profile and Off. People have all different reasons for having multiple profiles that go beyond the preloaded ones. In going through some old posts the other day, I realized we never had a quick tip for this. So here it is today, how to create a new profile on your BlackBerry.
Feeling overloaded with BlackBerry news and rumors? We know the feeling. We hear new things almost every day, and it can be tough to keep up with it all. that’s why we’re bringing you BlackBerry News from the Wire every Thursday.
We’ll catch you up on everything ‘Berry that happened over the course of the week. Not only that, but we’ll rank ‘em by importance, so you can more easily skim the items and read the ones of most significance. If you only have time to read one article, for instance, you might want to head down to our 5-star section. It’s All the BlackBerry News Fit to Geek.
We get a lot of questions here at BBGeeks, but perhaps none with the frequency of how to listen to podcasts. For the longest time users had to download the audio file, either to their desktop or, in some lucky instances, over the air. Yet there are precious few ways to stream podcasts. Here’s one that was just brought to my attention: Stitcher. The application allows you to choose which podcasts you want, and then you can create your own custom channels. Sounds like a winner right there.
Like most things in life, today’s featured BlackBerry application can be explained with a Simpson’s quote. When going to Itchy & Scatch Land, Homer parks the car and notes: “Remember, we parked in the Itchy lot.” The Itchy Lot, of course, is enormous. We’ve all experienced something like that before. Whether you’re parking your car at an amusement park, the airport, or just on a city street, it’s easy to forget where exactly you left it. Via BlackBerry Cool, we learn of a solution: VQ CarFinder. It’s an application that works with GPS and a Bluetooth unit in your car to register where you parked, and then help you find it if you forget. That should make life just a tad bit easier.
As expected, it’s all Storm 2 all the time heading forward. While there’s not any news this week, we’ve gotten a glimpse of the device — at least the pre-production model. RIM doesn’t want anyone seeing it, though. so they could be looking for some tweaks and upgrades. They’ve got me excited.
Just as a quick experiment, pick up your BlackBerry and go to Options, Advanced Options, Applications. After the app list builds, you’ll see your normal list. You might have noticed this before, but a number of those applications are in bold-faced font. I noticed it, but never bothered to even wonder why. Just figured it was because it was. Then I ran into this article by Al Sacco. He’s an interesting dude, and if he’s interested in why some apps are bolded, well, I guess that makes it interesting. Answer after the jump.

Yesterday, in celebration of the leaked BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, we discussed how to install BlackBerry Messenger. Within the article we linked to sources where you can download the application, both over the air and to your desktop. We also warned that you could encounter troubles. Practicing what I preach, I downloaded the 83xx version for OS 4.5 over the air. After a hefty file download, installation, and reboot, I saw that my BBM was gone completely. It seems to be a Verizon problem for those with OS 4.5.0.77. Even so, some people might not like the leaked messenger. After the jump we’ll go over what to do if you want to downgrade.
Welcome back all you BBGeeks to our monthly roundup of the BBGeeks Twitter Help activities. If you have been following us for a while now you no doubt know about our account on Twitter.com.
Each and every day we reach out to other Twitter users and ask them what kind of problems they are experiencing with their BlackBerry devices. The response is always good. Some do not have problems at all, but just need some advice about BlackBerry software or accessories that would help them increase their productivity.
If we had trending topics on BBGeeks, Twitter would certainly be one of them. We’ve made an effort to connect with readers via our own Twitter feed, and it’s led to six rounds of help files — with a seventh coming later today. We’ve also reviewed a number of BlackBerry Twitter clients, and the list is growing. It started with TwitterBerry (due for an update), and progressed to UberTwitter, Tiny Twitter, Twibble, and Blackbird. Today we move onto yet another one, BBTweet. Like the others, we’ll take a quick walk through the program to see what makes it tick.
The official BlackBerry WordPress client has been out for a few weeks now, and already it’s seen a few updates. Nothing groundbreaking, but just some minor improvements on the basic app. The hope is that there’s enough interest in it that they continue to add new features so it resembles the desktop WordPress as closely as possible. For those who want a more powerful WordPress client right now, though, there is an alternative: Wicked WordPress (thanks Bla1ze). It’s got a ton of features, and the support documents provide an excellent walk through. Unfortunately, unlike the official WordPress app, Wicked WordPress is not free.
You might have heard earlier this week that BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 leaked and is available for download. We didn’t post a link at first, because we almost immediately heard complaints about the device bricking certain phones. Most of those issues seem to be in the past, so we’ll throw up a link at this point, but please, please understand that this can still harm your BlackBerry. Many people have had a smashing success with BBM 5.0, but not everyone will. Don’t do this unless you feel comfortable doing so, and feel confident that you can get your Berry back to normal if something goes awry. That said, let’s run through the download and install process.
The one complain I always hear about Pandora for BlackBerry is that there is no caching. This can be an annoyance for anyone who goes in and out of cellular signal — like the subway. Without caching, once your current song finishes playing that’s it. No more music for you. With caching, though, your BlackBerry can pull data behind the scenes and keep songs loaded up, ready to go for when you’re out of signal range. FlyCast is trying to change all that. They’ve released a new version of their streaming radio application, and it includes caching. There is a price, of course. There’s always a price.
The maker of the Canadian gadget that gives drivers hands-free access to their Blackberry inbox has announced a nationwide distribution deal. The device known as iLane will be sold at Bell Mobility stores across Canada. Bell and IMS (the Waterloo, Ontario company that created iLane) announced the partnership that’ll put the device into dashboards across the country. Read more… »
I’m not sure how many people this affects — after going through two of the solutions, it appears it’s easy enough to remove. The issue was with my Gmail account through BIS. Every time I’d send an email to another Gmail user who had a BlackBerry using BIS, I’d come home to see a delivery confirmation in my inbox. These do not show up on my BlackBerry, but only on my Gmail web inbox. It’s not a huge deal, just mildly annoying. If this is bothering you as well, read on to get a couple of fixes.
Let me start by saying how much I enjoy reviewing all of these Blackberry gadgets and accessories available in the BBGeeks store. Once a month I get to pick an item that I think would be a great purchase for BlackBerry owners everywhere and get my thoughts out about it.
I try and pick devices that will enhance your productivity, provide additional functionality to your device, or give you a little added protection from wear and tear.
This time out I decided to go with something extravagant for the review process and decided on the BlueAnt M1 Bluetooth Stereo Speakers. Read more… »
The BBGeekcast rolls on with news on the just-released Tour — it opened well — as well as some upcoming models. The Storm 2 is going to be a hot topic in the coming weeks and months, as is the Onyx. And don’t forget the soon-to-be-released 8520 Curve.
It’s always a good start to a day when I can write about my favorite BlackBerry app, Pandora, getting an update. It looks like they’ve made a few bug fixes and added a few new features, which is great. Unfortunately, it doesn’t add some of the current Web features, like the ability to add new artists to a station, but it does bring in better audio quality and the ability to select a high quality or normal quality feed, so you can tailor the the service to your current connection. Thanks to Bla1ze at CrackBerry for finding the change log.

Normally in this space I like to feature a BlackBerry quick tip or an application which readers might find useful or cool. Today I couldn’t decide between two, so I decided to share both. Via BlackBerry Cool, we learn about MyPhone, an application which presents an iPhone UI on your BlackBerry. The other is Google Voice, a long-awaited upgrade of Grand Central, the voicemail service Google Bought in July 2007. They’ve released a BlackBerry application, and it’s now available. As in, you can get it, unlike MyBlackBerry, which, as of Wednesday afternoon still requires an invite code.
It’s been a while, but the good folks at MobiHand are bringing you yet another edition of MobileHeist, the promotion where they mark down various games and applications in their store. Their store happens to be our store, so we’re glad to bring you the discounts. After the jump, check out the discounted apps.
Our series on BlackBerry Twitter clients continues today with Blackbird — and no, you don’t capitalize the second B. It’s a stripped-down client, allowing only basic functions. This is good for simple Twitter users, but as you’ll see in the walkthrough, there are many missing features which will certainly annoy power users. Still, there’s something to be said for simplicity, and for those who just want to update their Twitter and check on friends’, Blackbird might just be the answer.
Ever since BIS exploded in popularity, many Mac users made the decision to pick up a BlackBerry. The only thing standing in the way of them and BlackBerry bliss: the lack of Desktop Manager. There are programs like PocketMac and MissingSync which can take care of some tasks, but they don’t tough Desktop Manager in terms of doing everything Berry. That’s all about to change. The Official BlackBerry Blog has revealed RIM’s plans to release Desktop Manager for Mac in September. I’m not normally one for extreme fanboyishness or exclamation points, but for this I’ll make an exception. Finally!!1!!11!!!
So I got my new Bold after my last one kind of “walked away” on me. This new one, now that I have loaded all my 3rd party applications, themes and data is working just fine. Or it was working just fine I thought, until I tried out the GPS.
I set up all the settings that were required, I clicked to find my location and . . . nothing. An hour later, still searching for satellites =( Read more… »
When I found out yesterday morning that the long-awaited WordPress BlackBerry application was available in beta form, I couldn’t have been more ecstatic. As someone who has about a half dozen blogs on the WordPress platform, this tool will be of great benefit. Since I know many other geeks out there have blogs of their own, I figured I’d quickly go over the available features. Remember, this is still a beta, so there will be bug and incomplete features. Even so, I’d call this one a winner right now.
When we walked through UberTwitter for BlackBerry, we noted that there are a ton of BlackBerry Twitter clients out there. Never ones to shy away from a self-imposed challenge, we’re going to run through a bunch more. Hey, might as well do it while Twitter’s still hot, right? This time around we’re going to examine Twibble. It’s a Java-based application which debuted for Nokia phones, but has spread to the BlackBerry. They even have a desktop client, though it seems most people prefer TweetDeck from the desktop. Anyway, here’s a walk-through of Twibble, from download to sending pictures.
It was about two weeks ago that we’d posted get a new BlackBerry Gmail app featuring push. In one way it was exciting. We’d been waiting for the combination of two-way sync and push for quite some time. In another way, though, it was a bit disappointing to hear. After all, it will only be available to Premier users, which means you’ve got to pay. Now we’ve got word, though, that RIM is working on an Enhanced Gmail Plugin, which will bring many Gmail features right to your BlackBerry.
As we’ve noted before, BlackBerry App World is far from perfect. It has some neat applications, though it’s no BBGeeks App Store. RIM could be onto something here, but they’re going to give the application a facelift and a tune-up if it wants to in any way compete with other mobile app stores. The inimitable Al Sacco of CIO Magazine notes nine fixes for RIM to take care of in the next App World update. Much ground as Sacco covers, they still probably need to do more.
The Tour! After waiting months to hear about it, we got official announcements a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, pricing and release dates were missing. That changed this week, as both Verizon and Sprint announced that they will release the device on July 12 for $199.99, after a mail-in rebate. There’s plenty to say about the Tour, so listen on.
Every so often here, we go over BlackBerry quick tips, little tidbits that can make your BlackBerry life easier. Some of these are more advanced, but we also like to go over the basics. Today is one of those instances. In searching through the site yesterday, I realized we didn’t have a bit on how to delete applications from your BlackBerry. So after the jump we’ll go through the basic process.
Last time we met for our bi-weekly theme review, we covered a number of Storm themes. Those tend to get neglected, so the post dedicated to just Storm themes made sense. To balance things a bit we’re going with some Curve themes this week, for all of you OS 4.5ers out there. Next time we’ll hit some Curve 8900 and Bold themes. The Tour should be out around then, and you can bet we’ll do up a bunch of themes for that, too. We should also probably work on some reviews for Pearl themes. After Storm users, I think they’re the most neglected of the BlackBerry users.

Every once in a while I come across something so amazingly simple that I kick myself for not having discovered it before. It’s yet another reason I love the BlackBerry: after years of playing around with it and writing down my findings, there are still things to learn. This one is pretty basic, but totally practical. Some people like to write novellas when they send an email. Sometimes it’s annoying, but other times it’s necessary and you actually have to read through the thing. But what if you don’t want to do it in one sitting? That could mean scrolling through to the point you left off, which, depending on the length of the email, could be a pain. There’s a quick fix, though.
It is no secret that we here at BBGeeks love the product put out by the OtterBox team. We have taken a look at quite a few of the OtterBox cases in the past and profiled some of them for you right here on the site.
The only device we do not have in house to test on is the BlackBerry Storm (and Pearl flip) so once in a while we catch ourselves neglecting the device and not highlighting the solutions that are handy for Storm owners.
Today we rectify that situation by bringing you the first of a great product line from OtterBox for the BlackBerry Storm.
Be sure to read all the way to the end for a surprise for one lucky Storm owner. Read more… »
Here’s a great find from Kyle at BBCool. It’s an app called BBFileScout, and it gives you a free and easy way to manage your BlackBerry files, both on device memory and media card. This is version 1.0, so it seems like the first release out of beta. We went over a file manager in our Father’s Day apps post, and while that one is a mean filing machine, BBFileScout offers many of the same functions for free. After the jump we’ll go over some of the features. Plus, of course, the download link.
Earlier this month we learned that BlackBerry Twitter client ÜberTwitter would be getting an update. On Saturday we saw them release version 0.75. Later that day they upgraded that to 0.78, owing to a fix in the timeline update issues. So this one has all the fixes and upgrades they promised when we first learned of the new release. After the jump we’ll go over those changes again. Plus, a sneak preview of what will be on tap for the next iteration of ÜberTwitter.
Ok, wait. If you guys are really us, what number are we thinking of? ((episode) 69, dudes!) Okay, sophomoric antics aside, we’ve got some stuff to run down on the show, including the Tour announcement. Plus, there are some other BlackBerry devices in the offing.
Fantasy sports is a crazy, crazy industry. People get all sorts of obsessed over their fake teams. Go to any bookstore and you’ll see dozens of magazines dedicated to the topic. There are hundreds of online sites on how to better your fantasy team and win your league. We’re right in the middle of baseball season right now, and the mother of all fantasy sports leagues, the NFL, is right around the bend. With an assist from BerryReview, we now learn that Yahoo! has released a fantasy sports app. Details after the jump.

How many contacts do you have on your BlackBerry? Two of my friends, both working at an independent Verizon retailer, who have a contest to see who transfers more BlackBerry contacts. Honestly, they make my 100+ contacts look paltry. The current leader transferred 1,500 in one shot. Whoa. So I assume plenty of readers out there have hundreds, even thousands of contacts. How do you manage that? If I did, I’d check out acceloDex, a contact management application which makes it easier to scroll through your massive address book.
The IMEI number of your blackberry :
This is a 15-17 digit serial number unique to your mobile phone. You can find the IMEI number by:
a. Typing *#06# on your blackberry Keypad.
b. You may also find the IMEI number underneath the blackberry Battery.
Please Note: You are fully responsible for providing the correct IMEI # for your phone. Entering the wrong IMEI # will result the wrong unlock code and the code will not work on your blackberry.
