I’m only gonna say it once…you NEED to download this theme. Not only is it one of THE SLICKEST themes available, it’s also completely free. Yes, FREE. Hard to believe isn’t it, especially when this theme is a lot better than some of the ‘premium’ themes floating around.
BlackBerry Pro, Version 5, created by the ever-talented Natemz is well, well worth its weight in gold. It runs like a charm, has gorgeous graphics and is extremely efficient. With seven different colors to choose from there is a version for everyone of you. Yeah, you can see why I am so thrilled about this theme.
Natemz’s themes can be found over at BlackBerryOS.com at the links below. I highly recommend you heading over there to give them a try if you have one of the supported devices. More information can also be found at these links. Thanks Natemz and keep up the tremendous work!
By the way, if you love Natemz’s work, there are donation buttons at the following links where you can show him some support.
Since the introduction of Wi-Fi on the BlackBerry, and the Bold 9000, RIM’s first 3G BlackBerry, surfing the web on our handsets has been faster than ever. Still, BlackBerry users will be getting an extra kick in speed according to a recent patent application by RIM entitled, “SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENHANCING NETWORK BROWSING SPEED BY SETTING A PROXY SERVER ON A HANDHELD DEVICE.” Who doesn’t want faster browsing speeds?
The patent sheds a little light on how data is transferred now, and the solution RIM plans to offer to make that process more efficient. RIM states, “One reason is that the data is sent across the air uncompressed. This increases traffic and lowers browsing speed.” Ever the innovative engineers, the folks at RIM have come up with a clever way of enhancing current technologies by creating a proxy server on the handset in order to compress and transcode HTTP requests before it hits the air. A quick glance at the patent summary reveals:
“A system for enhancing network-browsing speed by setting a proxy server on a handheld device comprises a browser for sending a request for requesting a message from a website and receiving a response in response to the request, a proxy server for transcoding and compressing the request, and transcoding and decompressing the response including the requested message in response to the request, a wireless network communicably linked to the proxy server, Mobile Data Service (MDS) gateway for transcoding and decompressing the request, and transcoding and compressing the response including the requested message from the website.”
So, instead of having to send data back and forth several times just to get information to load on your browser, a proxy server should be able to handle compressing, transcoding and decompressing much faster. Now we just need to couple this technology with a brand new WebKit-based browser and then maybe we’ll finally have that kick-butt web surfing experience all of us BlackBerry users have been waiting for.
Although including today’s most sophisticated communications device, the BlackBerry still you could have problems. Well, one problem that might be over ‘The smart handset’ Your property is suddenly nge-hang or restart itself.
These problems can usually be overcome by performing a soft reset, by pressing the ALT key and the same CAP DELETE or perform a hard reset, ie press the reset button on the back of your BlackBerry. But what if both ways are not working? Maybe it’s time to upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System.
Operating System, or commonly abbreviated OS is a vital component of software that has been embedded on your BlackBerry. OS supports BlackBerry performance for multitasking flagship features. that is browsing the Internet, push e-mail, user interfaces, and multimedia.
Convenience for this OS upgrade is one of the advantages the BlackBerry than any other smartphone. With the upgraded OS, BlackBerry older models will have features and capabilities similar to the latest model though. So for you who want to maintain the BlackBerry models pet will not feel ‘inferior’ to the owner of the latest BlackBerry models. Unfortunately, there are still many users who do not bother to upgrade their BlackBerry Operating System, but how tidak’seseram ‘imagined.
First, know the latest OS version first provided mobile operators. You should not download from other sites for your BlackBerry is a product bundling programs mobile operators. If you are still trying to put the OS from the site of different mobile operators, so make sure the first data file has been deleted. If not, then be prepared for possible downgrade because there will be a mismatch in the system.
After downloading the latest OS, upload using the BlackBerry desktop software manager. Then you can enjoy the performance flagship features more optimally. Like koneksivitas faster, clearer sound, or download files faster.
So for you to hang all the activities and work on BlackBerry favorite, never lazy to find out about the latest version of the OS upgrade your BlackBerry. You do not want, at the time your BlackBerry is required ngadat, right?
Amidst all the BlackBerry 9700 news some other changes did happen at Rogers the other day. Rogers has since reduced the pricing on some of their other BlackBerry offerings such as the BlackBerry Bold 9000, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the BlackBerry Curve 8520. Often times when a new BlackBerry such as the 9700 comes people may have no interest in that device. If you’re one of those people you may see it as the time to get a BlackBerry you do want at a discounted price.
All the mentioned devices are still great and no one out there should have to worry about them being obsolete for a little while yet. This would be a great time to grab a new device on the cheap and still have some of the best devices BlackBerry offers.
The BlackBerry Bold 9000 is now going for $99.99 in black or white and the BlackBerry Curve 8900 is now set at a mere $79.99, while the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is at what it should have been released at, being $49.99. All based on 3/yr long contracts with Rogers, of course.
Today we are looking a procedure that most of us will do at one time or another while owning a BlackBerry which is unlocking. Keep in mind, this will only work on GSM devices, or “World Phones” like the 8830WE, Storm or Tour. If you are like me, you will sometimes want a BlackBerry from another carrier to run on your own carrier. Or maybe you want to sell it and increase resale value while opening yourself up to more potential buyers. All you need to do is get an unlock code and follow our quick session and your on your way!
How to Enter Unlock Codes for Blackberry 8900, 9000, 9630, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8800, 8820:
You will need to get an unlock code either from your carrier or from an unlocking company. You also must have either a active or inactive SIM card in your phone to complete the unlock process.
1. Go to Options, Advanced Options, then Sim Card
2. On your Blackberry, type MEPD (You will not see any text appear on the screen while typing MEPD)
3. Type MEP, then ALT BUTTON, and then 2 on your Blackberry keyboard (Once again, you will not see any text appear on the screen while typing)
4. You should see a prompt “Enter Network MEP Code”. Type in the unlock code and press the trackball
If code says accepted, your BlackBerry is now unlocked. To verify your device is unlocked, follow steps 1 & 2 and “Network” will say “disabled”. If Network says “Active”, then it is still locked to the standard carrier. Be sure to check out our Cell Unlocking Companies forum for more information.
Documents To Go is something all BlackBerry users should be aware of by now. With OS every since 4.5, Documents To Go has been preloaded on all devices by RIM. Many users have long since upgraded to the premium version that was offered, while many just chose to keep the basic functioning one on their devices for occasional use. Documents To Go is by no means a cheap application, with the premium version ringing in at $69.99. But for those of you who have seen the advantages of it, you might wanna check out the newly upgraded version 2.0.
The update brings some changes to the table that many users have been asking for such as wireless desktop syncronization and the ability to open password protected Office 2007 files. The only thing that may make you sway from buying it is the fact the upgrade is set at $29.99 alone, which is rather steep considering the cost of getting the premium version alone was over $70. If Documents To Go has been useful to you in the past, you may want to at least check out the free trial that is available and see if it’s worth the investment to you.
We knew it wouldn’t be much longer, and today it was announced that Alltel has released the BlackBerry Tour 9630 for purchase both online and in retail outlets. The CDMA device is available for $199.99 (after $100 mail-in rebate) on a 1-year contract. You’ll have to select one of Alltel’s Smart Choice packs that include a national minute plan, email, web browsing and My Circle. The Tour will be available to new customers still under the Alltel (not Verizon) service areas. For more information, check out the full press release or visit alltel.com.

We got word this morning from the company that SocialDeck has released the first cross-platform game that can be played in real time across networks. Users can play on iPhone, Facebook or BlackBerry and interact regardless of their device or platform. Shake and Spell is a simple spelling game that has been available on both Facebook and iTunes for a while, but now user can experience gameplay no matter where they are. You have the ability to chat and interact with players, discover friends and view leaderboards. All of the same options are present on all platforms. When starting the app, you’ll see your Game Feed notifying you of games, updates etc. You can even start a game on one platform, then move to another. The Facebook application is obviously the most full-featured, but this is a big step for mobile gaming. For more information, head over to http://www.socialdeck.com/. Check out the full press release after the jump. It’s interesting to note that this app was funding by the BlackBerry Partners Fund. Be sure to give it a whirl!
Seriously. This RadGuard app scares the sh!t out of me. Why? Because I pretty much have my BlackBerry (often more than one BlackBerry) with me 24/7, typically carrying it around not so far from my you know what. And the number of times I’ve fallen asleep with my BlackBerry on my chest or beside me just inches away from my head (which contains my brain) the last thing I want to think about are the things potentially happening to my body caused by radiation emitted from my trusted electronic companion. It’s not typically my style, but with this argument/issue I’d rather remain as blissfully ignorant as possible. Enough with the drole… so what’s RadGuard? Read on for the details:
Yes you read the title correctly. It looks like well known reporter Lois Lane certainly does use a BlackBerry Storm. Reading through Action Comics #880, one CrackBerry member came across this image of Lois Lane’s phone, and it sure does look like a Storm. While any details like "BlackBerry" or "Verizon" don’t appear, any CrackBerry user knows exactly what device it is. That familiar Deeet Deeet ringtone is a dead giveaway as well. Heck, maybe its a Storm 2? Superman surely must get her some great gifts - maybe he has some pull at RIM. Thanks to Alberto for sending this in!
Excited to get your hands on the new UberTwitter update? Well maybe you can get away without paying for it. With the release of the 0.912 update, UberTwitter has been kind enough to give us 200 copies of their new ad-free version to give away. The update provides users with a free ad-supported version, as well as a paid ad-free version. The paid version is $4.99 for a year of full service and upgrades. Not really a twerrible price if you use UberTwitter as your main Twitter client. On a side note, their new TwitVid support is great (especially since TwitVid actually works on mobile devices now). To enter to win, just leave a comment on this post. Contest ends this Sunday at Midnight PST. Please only leave one comment - multiple submissions won’t count.
Deal of the Day BlackBerry Tour week continues and Day 4 is GAME DAY. With a domain name like CrackBerry.com, I guess it’s only fitting that the game we’re offering at half price is about dealing substances of the addictive nature. Berry Wars is a throwback game, based on the ultra-popular Drug Wars. Since it launched back in early May it has basically been one of the top selling games in the CrackBerry App Store, so you know it’s good and addictive. For the details on Berry Wars, be sure to click over to the product page for full description, screen caps, video and customer reviews.
Keep in mind that while this may be BlackBerry Tour Week, Berry Wars is also available for the Storm, Bold and Curve 8900, so you can get in on today’s savings if you’re rocking any of those devices.
Those of you looking to tether your BlackBerry to your Mac look no further. RIM has published an article with a step-by-step of just how to do it. The article How to set up an IP modem using Bluetooth on an Apple Macintosh computerhas plain and simple steps to get the job done.
A BlackBerry smartphone with tethered modem over Bluetooth® capabilities can be used as an external modem to connect an Apple Macintosh computer to the Internet. To set up an Internet Protocol (IP) modem over Bluetooth on an Apple Macintosh computer, complete the following tasks.
The full article can be found in the BlackBerry Technical Solution Center. This is a simple solution for Mac users, yet many don’t know how to set it up or never cared to try. If you have tested out this method, be sure to leave a comment and let us know your findings.
This one popped up in the CrackBerry forums this morning and is good for a Thursday morning chuckle. Be sure to watch the advertisement above for Microsoft’s new FUNE phone. Any BlackBerry users out there thinking about switching?
Let’s face it! Sometimes finding the perfect theme is a hard task. Even now a days with all the great theme makers out there making some seriously creative, innovative and just outstanding themes I still find myself going back to the original RIM supplied Precision themes on most of my devices. One device that stands out more then others where this is common practice is my BlackBerry Storm, seems no matter how many themes I try–I return to Precision based theme.
Feeling the same way about themes, CrackBerry forums member Rockee has put together a list of over 40 themes for the BlackBerry Storm. All styled with Precision icons but utilizing Plazmic to create an awesome array of variations. 8 icons, 12 icons, with or without quick launch, with or without weather eye slots, if a Precision theme is what you seek–Rockee has a variation that will fit your needs.
Falling right in line with all prior predicitions, rumors and confirmation T-Mobile has posted the 8520 as a "Coming Soon" device on their site. August 5th will be a great day for those waiting to get their hands on one or–even two of these considering the low cost of $48.88 that they will be rolling into Walmart locations with. T-Mobile as of yet, has not posted any contracted pricing for the 8520 nor any off contract pricing either but we’re expecting a $100-$150 range on contract for the 8520. And it just would feel wrong if we didn’t give one of these away, so stay tuned for an upcoming contest we’ll be having where you have the chance to win an 8520 of your own.
Since its release by NikkiSoft, QuickLaunch for BlackBerry has been able to call the CrackBerry Top 10 Best Sellers list its home. Initially available only for the Storm but now available for most BlackBerry device models, QuickLaunch helps you get more out of your BlackBerry experience by creating shortcuts to the things you use/do most. For more information, watch the video above and also read our QuickLaunch Review, this QuickLaunch 2.0 release post and check out the QuickLaunch product description page (lots of customer reviews).
QuickLaunch normally sells for $4.99, but as today’s CrackBerry Deal of the Day you can get it 50% for only $2.49.
We’ve already had plenty of up close and personal looks at the Storm 2 - much to the dismay of RIM as they promptly requested images and video to be pulled. But that is neither here nor there at this time. We know it exists, we know it will eventually hit carriers and now we are just that much closer to a possible release date month.
The good folks over at The BlackBerry Zone have posted that Vodafone UK is set to release the Storm 2 (9520) in October while Verizon is still on for a Storm 2 (9550) release in November. Now this month has actually been tossed around for a few devices, especially the Onyx. So we here at CrackBerry will still leave this one stuck under the "rumor" category, just for safety sake. Stay tuned as more information is developing. So what do you think? Is November going to be the month or will RIM delay it beyond that?
Ah Summer - sun burns, shorts and sandals. There’s still plenty of Summer left, and you know what that means. Time to throw another party! I don’t know about the weather where you are, but here, it’s been stifling hot out the past week or so. I guess I shouldn’t complain though, it’s also been beautifully sunny out. One way to beat the heat is with a cool drink. While I prefer sticking with water, lemonade or iced tea, some may opt for something stronger. You may see someone at the party attempting to make a crazy concoction. Feeling Adventurous? Yes? Feeling Tipsy?…maybe? Perhaps you should leave the drinks to a pro, Bartender Pro.
Bartender Pro is a fun application providing you with access to classic recipes, popular recipes and some that I’ve never even heard of; over 300 in total! You can even enter what ingredients you have and Bartender Pro will help you figure out what you can create! Maybe even a Flaming Homer perhaps? Just to be safe, why don’t you hand over your car keys before taking a look at Bartender Pro?
What a week for contests! I love that so many are willing to give back to the CrackBerry nation and offer up their products and services. This week we had awesome contests for Tour Coveroo’s, some free unlock codes from Express Unlock, Corey Visto and AppleBerry Dark themes and free copies of SimpleWeather. Loads of winners this time around and many more contests on the way.
What’s this? A T-Mobile 8520 unboxing video you say? Why yes, it is. Seems the good folks at WalMart have been letting a few of these go out the door prior to the official launch date of August 5th. If you are looking to grab one of these for the $48.88 WalMart is charging new customers, you better hop to it, just in case head office puts a stop to it.
The new customer pricing is great on this one, although the poster of the video states off contract is $349.99, which is indeed a little more hefty for such a device. Now, who out there got one? Does your local WalMart have em? What about this "Out of The Box" Mac compatability - did you get a Mac desktop manager? So many questions! Let us know in the comments and in the forums what the deal is here folks
Here is an awesome free application that you all you with a WiFi compatible BlackBerry may wish to download. Not because it’s the hottest thing going since sliced bread–but simply to have it, as you never know when you may find a great use for it. Porta Server turns your WiFi enabled BlackBerry into a web server on the go and access its file system from any web browser on the same network. You can view or download pictures, music, videos, documents or web pages directly from your handset over a WiFi connection.
Now, I was rather skeptical of how well this application would actually function or if it would at all for that matter. But after having downloaded, installed and tested I can say it works amazingly easy and while it’s not an everyday use kind of application, I can see great uses for it should they arise.
A good example and my test, was that I had a song on my iPhone which was not present on my Bold in two minutes I was able to transfer the song from my BlackBerry to my iPhone simply by opening Safari and browsing and entering my WiFi’s IP address and inserting the given password. Pic after the jump showing the file system on my BlackBerry through Safari on my iPhone.
Leave A Comment Here To Win 1 Of 100 Unlock Codes!!
The 8520 official launch date is nearing ever so quickly and reports have been coming in of users who have already been able to pick up a sexy new 8520 at certain WalMart locations. Heck, even an unboxing video and officially the 8520 will launch on August 5th at all T-Mobile locations and supporting WalMart locations. Since the 8520 is being launched as a cost effective device ($48.88 at WalMart with New 2/Yr, $349.99 w/No Contract), many of those who it may interest may be grabbing more then one.
So CellUnlock.net was kind enough to provide us with 100 unlock codes for our users on T-Mobile or who have–plan on grabbing an 8520. Just leave your comment on this post for your chance to win and of course a big thanks to our sponsor–CellUnlock for making this happen for the CrackBerry community.
