Dragon for Email

I remember way back when I had one of my first PCs and I discovered Dragon Dictate. I was amazed that I could just speak and the PC would recognize (mostly) what I said and put it into text. Well I’ve been wowed again with the release of Dragon for Email. Never has it been easier to speak your emails to your BlackBerry. Just talk away and Dragon for Email will transcribe your speech into a text email on your device. The app integrates directly with the native email client, and you can speak names for the address line, subjects and email body. You can also reply and forward emails using the app. Dragon for Email is available in the US free for a limited time. You can download it directly from BlackBerry App World.

Documents To Go Updated

Documents To Go is something all BlackBerry users should be aware of by now. With OS every since 4.5, Documents To Go has been preloaded on all devices by RIM. Many users have long since upgraded to the premium version that was offered, while many just chose to keep the basic functioning one on their devices for occasional use. Documents To Go is by no means a cheap application, with the premium version ringing in at $69.99. But for those of you who have seen the advantages of it, you might wanna check out the newly upgraded version 2.0.

The update brings some changes to the table that many users have been asking for such as wireless desktop syncronization and the ability to open password protected Office 2007 files. The only thing that may make you sway from buying it is the fact the upgrade is set at $29.99 alone, which is rather steep considering the cost of getting the premium version alone was over $70. If Documents To Go has been useful to you in the past, you may want to at least check out the free trial that is available and see if it’s worth the investment to you.

Companies collaborate to bring full Flash Player to BlackBerry Smartphones

RIM today announced they are working together to bring Adobe Flash Player support to the BlackBerry platform

RIM today announced they are working together to bring Adobe Flash Player support to the BlackBerry platform

RIM, the company behind BlackBerry’s wireless platform, including email and touchscreen technologies, is joining Adobe’s Open Screen Project, a 50-organization-members-strong organization that aims to promote better apps for richer mobile, television, and desktop browsing experiences for users.

With this announcement, 19 out of the top 20 mobile handset manufacturers are now collaborating with Adobe to integrate Flash technology into their devices.

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 5, 2009 - At Adobe MAX, Adobe’s worldwide developer conference, Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq:RIMM; TSX:RIM) today announced they are working together to bring Adobe Flash Player support to the BlackBerry platform. RIM is joining the Open Screen Project, a broad initiative dedicated to enabling standalone applications and richer Web browsing across mobile phones, televisions, desktops and other consumer electronic devices through the Adobe Flash Platform. The collaboration is expected to bring the full Flash Player browser runtime to BlackBerry smartphones.

“As an industry leader for innovative smartphones and wireless solutions, RIM delivers superior mobile user experiences to customers around the world,” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president, Flash Platform Business Unit at Adobe. “It’s a natural fit for both companies to work together to bring Flash technology based video and Web content to BlackBerry smartphone users.”

“As part of the Open Screen Project, RIM will be working with Adobe to deliver a great Flash technology experience on BlackBerry smartphones and to enable users to enjoy the exciting content and services that Flash technology developers and content creators are bringing to the Web,” said Alan Brenner, SVP at Research In Motion.

Led by Adobe, the Open Screen Project includes close to 50 industry leaders working together to provide a consistent runtime environment and user experience across mobile phones, desktops, and other consumer electronics devices. The initiative addresses the challenges of Web browsing on a broad range of devices, and removes the barriers to publishing content and applications seamlessly across screens.
