BlackBerry Storm Parts Research firm, iSuppli, estimates that the cost for the components and assembly of RIM’s BlackBerry Storm are just shy of $203 — an estimate that does not include software development, patent licensing fees, physical distribution, marketing or anything else in the product lifecycle. A $35 Qualcomm MSM7600 processor that gives the Storm its dual GSM / CDMA personality is by far the most costly. For comparison, the per unit cost of the Storms Major Rival an 8GB iPhone 3G is $175, and just $169 for the BlackBerry Bold. The BlackBerry Storms per unit cost makes it harder to capitalize on a profit, and is the least profitable of its peers to manufacture. |
