A website dedicated to BlackBerry users, driphter.com, has posted a hands-on review of the BlackBerry Bold 9780. While a video review of a new BlackBerry model is always interesting, the one offered by driphter.com has received considerable interest since it also shows the BlackBerry running the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. Hardware wise it seems that the 9780 isn’t really much different from its predecessor, the 9700.
If you’re a BlackBerry owner chomping at the bit for more peeks at the new BlackBerry operating system you will want to check out this video. Probably the most striking thing I took away from it was how smooth and fast the OS was as the user flips between screens. User interfaces also seem more intuitive which will make it easy for users of previous BlackBerry models to adapt to the new OS.
Straight from the horse’s mouth, comes the news that the latest incarnation of every suit-totin’, email-checkin’, business-type’s favourite phone OS (that is, BlackBerry OS 6.0) will be released this Summer.
During an analyst talk today, RIM co-chief Mike Lazaridis showed off the first official teasers of the new OS.
New features will include the previously mentioned WebKit browser — which will now play a central role in the OS, and the OS will support both trackpad and touchscreen devices, but the juiciest bombshell was the news that older BlackBerries will be able to upgrade, though it wasn’t stated how many models will be given the option.
First loves. No one ever forgets them. Whether it’s your first girlfriend or boyfriend, first car or first pet, you rarely ever forget that experience and what it taught you along the way. But I’m not here to reminisce about old flames and puppies; this is a BlackBerry site after all. When Kevin gave me the opportunity to contribute to the blogs here, I thought the most appropriate thing to do was to introduce myself by gushing about my first BlackBerry and how I got
Although including today’s most sophisticated communications device, the BlackBerry still you could have problems. Well, one problem that might be over ‘The smart handset’ Your property is suddenly nge-hang or restart itself.
These problems can usually be overcome by performing a soft reset, by pressing the ALT key and the same CAP DELETE or perform a hard reset, ie press the reset button on the back of your BlackBerry. But what if both ways are not working? Maybe it’s time to upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System.
Operating System, or commonly abbreviated OS is a vital component of software that has been embedded on your BlackBerry. OS supports BlackBerry performance for multitasking flagship features. that is browsing the Internet, push e-mail, user interfaces, and multimedia.
Convenience for this OS upgrade is one of the advantages the BlackBerry than any other smartphone. With the upgraded OS, BlackBerry older models will have features and capabilities similar to the latest model though. So for you who want to maintain the BlackBerry models pet will not feel ‘inferior’ to the owner of the latest BlackBerry models. Unfortunately, there are still many users who do not bother to upgrade their BlackBerry Operating System, but how tidak’seseram ‘imagined.
First, know the latest OS version first provided mobile operators. You should not download from other sites for your BlackBerry is a product bundling programs mobile operators. If you are still trying to put the OS from the site of different mobile operators, so make sure the first data file has been deleted. If not, then be prepared for possible downgrade because there will be a mismatch in the system.
After downloading the latest OS, upload using the BlackBerry desktop software manager. Then you can enjoy the performance flagship features more optimally. Like koneksivitas faster, clearer sound, or download files faster.
So for you to hang all the activities and work on BlackBerry favorite, never lazy to find out about the latest version of the OS upgrade your BlackBerry. You do not want, at the time your BlackBerry is required ngadat, right?
We’re already in mid-August, and things are starting to slow down news-wise. People are on vacation, so we can expect a slight decrease in rumor output. Still, we’ve got some updates on the BlackBerry Onyx, including a new model number and some info on where it will be released.
I’m not much of a watch-wearer. It’s a physique thing. My forearms are big, but they taper down into wrists I can wrap my fingers around. It’s not normal, and it makes any wrist-wear look awkward. Yet I very well could wear a watch if it connected via Bluetooth to my BlackBerry. Think about it. You could just glance at your watch to see if you have any new emails, SMS, BBMs, or anything of the sort. I caught this on the BlackBerry OS forum, but apparently Gadgets News wrote it up back in May. How did I miss this one? A picture of the sweet thing after the jump.
Well, the Curve 8520 was announced this week, so we’ve got a rundown of that. It includes a hefty price discrepancy between T-Mobile retail and Wal-Mart outlets and a CDMA version coming later this year. Plus, a few other tidbits, like a Verizon app store.
One question I’ve gotten a few times via email lately asks what you can do if you scratch the screen on your BlackBerry. This can be a tough issue which requires a little know-how. Thankfully, there are plenty of people around the Internet who have just that kind of knowledge. So we turn to them to answer the question. Hopefully they can lend a hand if you’re in this situation. But before we even start the linking, please, please, please: if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t do it. You’ll have to take apart your BlackBerry, which can not only void the warranty, but can render it useless if you do something wrong. Just a warning.
When we walked through BlackBerry App World a few months back, there was an immediate need for an upgrade. The program ate memory, lagged a bit, and wasn’t arranged in the most intuitive manner. RIM has looked at those issues and more, and via the Official BlackBerry Blog we learn that they’ve released App World 1.1. It presents a number of upgrades, including the ability to archive applications and a better search mechanism. After the jump we’ll go over everything.
It’s time once again for our bi-weekly feature, Theme Review Wednesdays. Why Wednesdays? I have no idea. Theme Review Thursdays would have been more alliterative, I suppose. Maybe it’s because it’s the middle of the week, and everything seems so mundane. So what better way to break the cycle than to change up your BlackBerry theme? Yeah, that’s the ticket. This week we take a look at three themes that offer a bit of a different look. The one by Hedone Design is especially worth a look — as is all their stuff.
Do you switch between profiles on your BlackBerry? Some users I know switch profiles constantly depending on where they are and where they’ll be. Others I know just flip between Normal profile and Off. People have all different reasons for having multiple profiles that go beyond the preloaded ones. In going through some old posts the other day, I realized we never had a quick tip for this. So here it is today, how to create a new profile on your BlackBerry.
Feeling overloaded with BlackBerry news and rumors? We know the feeling. We hear new things almost every day, and it can be tough to keep up with it all. that’s why we’re bringing you BlackBerry News from the Wire every Thursday.
We’ll catch you up on everything ‘Berry that happened over the course of the week. Not only that, but we’ll rank ‘em by importance, so you can more easily skim the items and read the ones of most significance. If you only have time to read one article, for instance, you might want to head down to our 5-star section. It’s All the BlackBerry News Fit to Geek.
We get a lot of questions here at BBGeeks, but perhaps none with the frequency of how to listen to podcasts. For the longest time users had to download the audio file, either to their desktop or, in some lucky instances, over the air. Yet there are precious few ways to stream podcasts. Here’s one that was just brought to my attention: Stitcher. The application allows you to choose which podcasts you want, and then you can create your own custom channels. Sounds like a winner right there.
Like most things in life, today’s featured BlackBerry application can be explained with a Simpson’s quote. When going to Itchy & Scatch Land, Homer parks the car and notes: “Remember, we parked in the Itchy lot.” The Itchy Lot, of course, is enormous. We’ve all experienced something like that before. Whether you’re parking your car at an amusement park, the airport, or just on a city street, it’s easy to forget where exactly you left it. Via BlackBerry Cool, we learn of a solution: VQ CarFinder. It’s an application that works with GPS and a Bluetooth unit in your car to register where you parked, and then help you find it if you forget. That should make life just a tad bit easier.
As expected, it’s all Storm 2 all the time heading forward. While there’s not any news this week, we’ve gotten a glimpse of the device — at least the pre-production model. RIM doesn’t want anyone seeing it, though. so they could be looking for some tweaks and upgrades. They’ve got me excited.
Just as a quick experiment, pick up your BlackBerry and go to Options, Advanced Options, Applications. After the app list builds, you’ll see your normal list. You might have noticed this before, but a number of those applications are in bold-faced font. I noticed it, but never bothered to even wonder why. Just figured it was because it was. Then I ran into this article by Al Sacco. He’s an interesting dude, and if he’s interested in why some apps are bolded, well, I guess that makes it interesting. Answer after the jump.

Yesterday, in celebration of the leaked BlackBerry Messenger 5.0, we discussed how to install BlackBerry Messenger. Within the article we linked to sources where you can download the application, both over the air and to your desktop. We also warned that you could encounter troubles. Practicing what I preach, I downloaded the 83xx version for OS 4.5 over the air. After a hefty file download, installation, and reboot, I saw that my BBM was gone completely. It seems to be a Verizon problem for those with OS 4.5.0.77. Even so, some people might not like the leaked messenger. After the jump we’ll go over what to do if you want to downgrade.
Welcome back all you BBGeeks to our monthly roundup of the BBGeeks Twitter Help activities. If you have been following us for a while now you no doubt know about our account on Twitter.com.
Each and every day we reach out to other Twitter users and ask them what kind of problems they are experiencing with their BlackBerry devices. The response is always good. Some do not have problems at all, but just need some advice about BlackBerry software or accessories that would help them increase their productivity.
If we had trending topics on BBGeeks, Twitter would certainly be one of them. We’ve made an effort to connect with readers via our own Twitter feed, and it’s led to six rounds of help files — with a seventh coming later today. We’ve also reviewed a number of BlackBerry Twitter clients, and the list is growing. It started with TwitterBerry (due for an update), and progressed to UberTwitter, Tiny Twitter, Twibble, and Blackbird. Today we move onto yet another one, BBTweet. Like the others, we’ll take a quick walk through the program to see what makes it tick.
The official BlackBerry WordPress client has been out for a few weeks now, and already it’s seen a few updates. Nothing groundbreaking, but just some minor improvements on the basic app. The hope is that there’s enough interest in it that they continue to add new features so it resembles the desktop WordPress as closely as possible. For those who want a more powerful WordPress client right now, though, there is an alternative: Wicked WordPress (thanks Bla1ze). It’s got a ton of features, and the support documents provide an excellent walk through. Unfortunately, unlike the official WordPress app, Wicked WordPress is not free.
You might have heard earlier this week that BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 leaked and is available for download. We didn’t post a link at first, because we almost immediately heard complaints about the device bricking certain phones. Most of those issues seem to be in the past, so we’ll throw up a link at this point, but please, please understand that this can still harm your BlackBerry. Many people have had a smashing success with BBM 5.0, but not everyone will. Don’t do this unless you feel comfortable doing so, and feel confident that you can get your Berry back to normal if something goes awry. That said, let’s run through the download and install process.
The one complain I always hear about Pandora for BlackBerry is that there is no caching. This can be an annoyance for anyone who goes in and out of cellular signal — like the subway. Without caching, once your current song finishes playing that’s it. No more music for you. With caching, though, your BlackBerry can pull data behind the scenes and keep songs loaded up, ready to go for when you’re out of signal range. FlyCast is trying to change all that. They’ve released a new version of their streaming radio application, and it includes caching. There is a price, of course. There’s always a price.
The maker of the Canadian gadget that gives drivers hands-free access to their Blackberry inbox has announced a nationwide distribution deal. The device known as iLane will be sold at Bell Mobility stores across Canada. Bell and IMS (the Waterloo, Ontario company that created iLane) announced the partnership that’ll put the device into dashboards across the country. Read more… »
